I Took A Little Break

So I took a little break. I have very limited time because I have been working my ass off as of late. 7 days a week to be exact.

But even though I have been working like crazy, I also have a lot of thoughts. Many of these thoughts are things I probably shouldn’t just blurt out in polite society. In anonymous society I don’t have to be so polite. I can just say what is on my mind. And I just need to do that sometimes. And this is a whole lot cheaper than therapy. So I am BACK!

I probably won’t write daily. Who has time for that? But my hiatus is over. I have too much on my mind. I’ve missed this.

Political Pranks

Please say that the people that are supposedly candidates are really just pranks. Please!!!!!!! I have been watching and waiting for someone to jump out and yell, “GOTCHA!” So far it hasn’t happened.

The candidates we have for president scare the hell out of me. I don’t like any of them. None. I used to like Hillary but then there have been so many cover ups and things that I just can’t like her anymore. Plus she’s already had her 8 years in the White House. I know Bill was President, but I don’t doubt for one minute that she wasn’t in his ear a few times telling him what to do. By the way, she should have told him more often to keep his pants up, but she seems to have gotten that under control. Or she took his viagra away. Who knows? Whatever the case is Bill is behaving. But Hillary hasn’t been.

And the Republican front runner makes me want to scream. Actually, I do scream at the television and computer screen when I hear some of the stupidity he spews. In a time of such unrest throughout the world, I really don’t think we need such a loose cannon running this country. He seems to think that he can say whatever he pleases with no ramifications. I’m sorry, Donald, but if you piss the world off, they do have weapons that they could all turn toward us. We really don’t need or want that. How about you shut your mouth and learn something about tact and diplomacy? There’s an old saying in the South: If you ain’t got something nice to say, then don’t say nothin’ at all. Try it just once in a while. I’m not saying be a wimp. But just because a thought crosses your mind, it doesn’t necessarily have to cross your lips.

I am not happy where we are at, but I am terrified of what is coming. These candidates are absolutely appalling. Again, I wish they were pranks, but unfortunately I don’t think they are. I think it’s real.

Life Changes

I have been making life changes since the beginning of the year. I decided this was going to be my year. It feels weird. Last year I was so unhappy. I was at a point where nothing sounded good and living just hurt. I am now at a point where I am learning that life can be good and it is OK to laugh and smile. I like being spoken to as an adult who matters. I like having a man think that I am smart, funny, sexy and lots of other things. I like that my body is changing and that I turn other men’s heads from time to time. The other day I must have been having a good day because I sent Alabama a selfie and he said he nearly fell off his seat, another man wouldn’t quit staring as I walked across the parking lot and there was more than one double-take. I’m a middle-aged woman and that does something for the ego. I won’t lie…I checked the mirror to see if there was a booger or something. I was like WTF?

I think all of these changes really have done something for my ego, though. I don’t walk into a place and look at the floor anymore. I look straight ahead or wherever else I might want to look. If I catch someone’s eyes accidentally, I don’t act ashamed. I walk with more confidence. That sounds odd I know but I take long strides now.

Yesterday as I was driving, there was a little snarl and I needed out of the mess. If I could exit, it would fix the whole thing. Well men were everywhere. I looked at all them and kinda shrugged like “Please?” and they all graciously parted for me to get through and all smiled and waved. Do you think that the woman from last year would have done that? No. She would have backed up and tried something else. This woman just went right through it and the problem was solved. I waved at all of them and kept going.

Flags, Flags everywhere

This week it seems the United States has been inundated with information on flags. I wish we would quit focusing so much on flags and focus on the issue and feelings.

The Confederate Flag elicits quite a few reactions. I try to be unbiased and understand both sides. I am a Southerner. I understand that it is part of our heritage. But I also understand that some people are offended by the fact that the flag is flying on governmental property. Since the governmental property is actually owned by citizens, maybe we shouldn’t fly it there. If you want to fly it at your residence, feel free. Although a flag isn’t truly speech, I have heard it falls under the protection of the Freedom of Speech. So what you do at home is fine. What politicians are saying for us by flying the flag on public property is not fine.

The rainbow flag has been everywhere because of the Supreme Court’s ruling on gay marriage. Many Christian groups are very upset about this and are quite vocal about it. As a Christian, I believe that sins of others have no bearing on my life typically. Unless these people are infringing on my rights and life, I have no right to infringe on theirs. People often quote pieces of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence to speak negatively about all of this. One important thing the Declaration of Independence states, which is a chief cause for our nation to have separated from England is:

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. I didn’t write that. Thomas Jefferson did. If it makes people happy to marry (which I really wonder about their sanity j/k), then let them. Their “sin” won’t affect you and you will not have oppressed someone by denying their unalienable right to happiness (again questioning someone’s sanity about happiness of marriage).

Now, by the same token that I am saying we shouldn’t oppress someone, I am also stating that I believe we shouldn’t deny people who disagree their right to the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Pretty much it means that you have the right to say what you want and I also have that same right. We may not agree, but we have the right to say, think and feel the way we do. It is my opinion that we should be tolerant and accepting of people’s right–even when they are not our own. I certainly wouldn’t want that right taken from me. Would you?

Cultural Controversy

So it seems that Rachel Dolezal is genetically white but identifies as black. I honestly understand that it can be offensive to some people who have struggled for equality. I get that. I think we all struggle, though. What I don’t get is why she can’t fight for people who are struggling without making it a racial issue. Struggles are PEOPLE ISSUES. They’re about being human. I don’t have to be white, black, brown, red or yellow to have issues. For the record, I am white, although I doubt it’s close to lily white. And I have struggled. Frankly, it’s a wonder I have survived as long as I have. But I’m not trying to pretend to be something I am not in order to fight the good fight. I am just who I am.

Rachel, I believe Dr. Suess summed it up well when he wrote:

youer than you

Don’t define anyone by the color of their skin. That is part of who they are but it doesn’t make the whole of a person. Define a person by their soul.

Christmas Question

While I know there are people who don’t believe in what Christians do regarding Christmas, I don’t get why they celebrate a religious holiday they don’t believe in. They say things such as, “Merry Christmas!” They want to get Christmas presents. I get that people want presents. I would like them daily, if possible, but I know that isn’t happening. I don’t comment on religious holidays/events I don’t participate in. So why do atheists or agnostics want to jump on the Christmas bandwagon?

I don’t want to get into the whole debate of winter solstice or any of that. I’m talking about people who make it a point to say things like, “Merry Christmas.” From what I know, for Christians Christmas is a celebration of Christ’s birth. They believe Jesus is Christ. Merry is a synonym for happy. So essentially when an atheist or agnostic says “Merry Christmas” they are saying “Happy Birthday, Jesus!”

I guess my point is stand by your convictions. Say what you mean and mean what you say. If you really are celebrating CHRISTmas, then do it. If you aren’t, don’t. But don’t commercialize a holiday that is already maxed out on commercialization all because you want presents.

Does Size Matter?

I’m talking about cell phones. Are you old enough to remember the first cell phones? They were huge, clunky and cumbersome. But man, were they cutting edge technology! We could talk as we drove! Wow! Then the craze was to shrink those babies down to a manageable size. As time has gone on, we have had all kinds of different shapes and sizes of cell phones. It’s been interesting. I have had a flip phone, a dumb phone and a smart phone.

Recently I was watching a commercial for the new IPhones and saw them promoting the “larger” phone. I laughed to myself because I have watched the evolution of the cell phone. Instead of promoting how compact the phones are and easy to carry, they are now promoting how you can watch tv and movies on your phone on a bigger screen. It is funny how times change. We wanted it smaller and now we want it bigger. Bigger is better, right? In most cases, yes.

So I thought I would just throw this observation out there because it was on my mind. I saw the humor and irony in the whole thing. Maybe you will, too. Have a great one!
